The geography of capital

An explorer for two papers on the cost of capital and Africa's power system

How to read this page

This page shows how a planOne solution of the model: what it builds, where, and how it runs, under one set of assumptions. runs hour by hour: which plants generate, when storageBatteries and pumped hydro, which take in energy when it's plentiful and give it back later. charges and gives power back, and how power moves between countries along the corridorsA cross-border power line between two neighbouring countries, which the model can build or expand.. Pick a plan, a place and a day.

Every figure comes from the solved run. Demand isn't stored hour by hour, so each country's demand is read from its own balance: what it generates, plus what its storage gives back, plus what it imports after losses on the lines, less what it exports and what it stores.
